What it means to be a security guard
A common misconception about security guards is that they never have to deal with people. This is not true and most of the job includes working with a variety of different people. It’s a career that involves being flexible and getting along with a diverse group of people. Those of you who are looking into a security guard job should know that dealing with people will be on your list of job duties. Working as a security guard is nothing short of exciting. Sure, there may be some days where you spend time watching the cameras, but there will be plenty of days that are both interesting and exciting.
The future for the security industry
Safety and the threat of terrorism are growing concerns for many companies, and as a result, job prospects look good for those of you wanting to become security guards. According to the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics), the number of available security jobs will increase faster than average over the next few years. More specialized assignments, such as those in casinos, will see the largest jump, but these jobs require additional training and experience. If you’re looking for a dynamic job where every day is different, then perhaps working as a security guard is right for you.
In 2010, I had been out of work for almost 2 years when I decided to get into security. South Brunswick Security was the best company I looked into after I received my S.O.R.A Certification. The management team had me assigned within three days of my initial interview. I started in a part-time position (20 hours) and they moved me to a full time position (with built–in overtime) with-in a three week period. I’m very happy here!— W. Koci
“I’ve been with SBS for over 40 years. I have to say that they are a first rate honest company. They treat us like family and I know they will always be there for me. If I have a problem with anything whether or not it’s work related they take care of it. I lost everything during Super Storm Sandy and they gave me a place to stay, they brought me meals and even helped me get a new car. I really can’t say enough about SBS. A great place to work!”— B. Cox
